This flower presents as purple flowers with bright orange yellow stamens tightly clustered on the top of a tall stem. The flowers are cone shaped. Occasionally you will see this flower in white. It has a strong musky odor that has earned it the nickname “skunkweed”.

It is a common sight in the high-altitude regions although only in the alpine region. This resilient plant is well-known for its beautiful clusters of blue to purple flowers, which stand out vividly against the rocky mountain terrain. Additionally, the plant has sticky, glandular hairs on its leaves and stems that serve a dual purpose: they deter herbivores and provide protection against the extreme conditions of its alpine habitat.
