Prairie Smoke

First you will see red hairy stalks with red or pink bells shaped flowers and flared ends. There are whitish green petals, which are only seen with close examination as they are tucked into the flowerhead. When the flower goes to seed, it faces upward and has long whispy feathery red plumes.
