One-sided Wintergreen
This plant has a small, single stem, that bends downward with many hanging pale green bell shaped flowers. This flower loves to grow under large trees in shady areas. It is small and unassuming and very easy to miss. The leaves sit along the ground and are leathery.
It is a mixotroph, meaning it gets about half of its carbon from mycorrhizal networks. These networks involve mycorrhizal fungi, which obtain carbon from the roots of nearby trees. Orthilia secunda then absorbs this carbon through its own roots from the fungi.
